Our membership consists of 25 of the 34 small local exchange carriers (SLECs) in Ohio, each serving fewer than 15,000 access. primarily in rural areas. They are Ohio companies employing Ohioans, serving Ohioans and developing Ohioans broadband network throughout the state for Ohioans of today and of tommorrow.
The collective groups fiber optic and broadband networks extend North to Toledo, Ohio and South to Columbus, Ohio. Our members in total serve in communities from as small as a few hundred to Ohio's largest metropolitan areas.
Although small, these businesses are a significant part of the state economy with gross operating revenues in excess of $50 million annually. Almost all of the companies offer digital technology and their network contains more than 3,000 route miles of fiber optic cable, most of it underground.
In addition to providing telecommunications services, the small local exchange carriers are generous corporate citizens. In recent years they have donated telephones, engineering expertise and wiring design to prepare for SchoolNet; offered voice mail systems for homework hotlines; provided cable to wire classrooms; wired school computers; provided two-way interactive educational TV on fiber optic cable; cooperated to deliver metroethernet services via fiber to connect school districts to thier information technology center; and served on school district planning committees.
We support our communities clubs, associations and organizations with a multitude of services and hands on support. Our customer are our friends and neighbors, therefore we take great pride in the communities we serve in a quality fashion.
